ACTIVITIES

After the considerable success of the four Christmas Concerts I have been asked to give you the following information about the money that was raised for the on going activities provided by WWYM. Ticket sales raised £1975; the raffle raised £253, programmes £222, merchandise £119, refreshments made £155 and the tuck shop £145. A special thank you to Tom Schonfeld who produced the Christmas cards, the sale of these raised £80. Incidentally, Tom and his Mum were responsible for posters and programmes. I must stress that the above is not all profit. There are considerable expenses, in particular the cost of music and the hire of the Music Centre. I would also like to thank the John of Gaunt School Brass Band for the contribution they made to the Sunday Concert. I would like to thank all those members of the audience who completed and returned the questionnaire. The findings were very useful and will help WWYM plan for the future.

Some of you will be aware that last year the D&DWB had to be suspended. Thanks to the considerable hard work of their conductor Sam Aldred the band was able to reform before Christmas. We are still desperate for all brass instruments and lower woodwind. I would ask all existing members to commit to the future of the band and encourage anyone they know to join.

WWYM ensemble No.13 held their first rehearsal on Monday 6th January 2003. Called Chippenham Junior Wind and under the musical direction of Claire Horseman they will give their first concert on Saturday 8th March 2003 at the Wiltshire Music Centre. The concert will also include the WWJW and the WWWB.

FUND RAISING

The Christmas Quiz raised £220, thank you to all who took part. There were two winners: - Katherine Mumford and Lyn Dymmock. The four runners up were Rodney Pickett, Mr Mrs Treble, Hannah Scott and Victoria Gunning. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Debbie Newman for organising the competition.

We are again this year very grateful to Westbury Town Council for giving us a grant of £250.

FUTURE EVENTS

This Saturday the West Wiltshire Youth Orchestra is to give a concert for the Wiltshire & Swindon Community Foundation. They are an organisation that raises money for local charities and the concert is sold out. The event will be a considerable challenge for the orchestra as they are doing the complete programme. Members of the WWSE are to be given the opportunity to work on chamber music with the Doric string Quartet. The WWYM Summer Festival will take place at Dauntsey's School West Lavington with both a concert in the afternoon and in the evening. Plans are well in hand for the WWCB, who will be going to Suances, Cantabria, Northern Spain for a residential course. They intend to give two concerts.

Finally can I ask all members who are taking public exams in the summer term to keep their conductors informed of any rehearsals they might miss. Also not to make holiday arrangements that may clash with the Summer Festival on Sunday 13th July.
