ACTIVITIES
At the end of this term WWYM will give or be involved with ten
concerts in nine different venues. Over 500 hundred of our young
musicians will be taking part and performing the music they have
been practising this term. Please encourage your parents and friends
to attend the concerts and keep your conductors informed if you
have any problems with attendance.
The West Wiltshire Young Musicians AGM will be on Friday 10th October
2004 at the Oliver Cromwell Pub in Bromham at 7.30. This will be
followed by a Skittles Evening. Information about this event can
be found in your young musicians instrument case or band folder.
DATES FOR NEXT YEAR
I have been asked on several occasions for earlier information
about WWYM starting and finishing dates. Our dates are different
to the normal school ones and some times not the same as the Wiltshire
Music Service teaching dates. In addition we are now edging towards
a six-term year. The conductors have always had the freedom to decide
the starting and finishing dates to suit various circumstances and
are very careful about keeping members of their ensembles informed.
However the dates for next year are as follows. All WWYM rehearsals
start the week beginning Monday 13th September 2004. Half-term starts
on Thursday 21st October 2004, all rehearsals start again on Monday
1st November 2004. Final rehearsals for the term finish the week
beginning Monday 6th December 2004.
HARP PROJECT
In the history of WWYM we have only ever had one successful harpist.
They’re two children learning the harp at the moment in local
primary schools, we intend to double this by buying to Welsh folk
harps to be taught through the WMS. It is a bit like playing the
tuba, they are very expensive but the whole ensemble benefits from
their presence.

The Sponsored Bash they held in March raised over £350. It
is to be split between the Sergent Cancer Care for Children and
WWYM.
Richard Clark has taken on the task of increasing the items of
merchandise we sell at our concerts. Future products will include
umbrellas, pens, pencils, Frisbees, mugs and teddy bears for Christmas.

Euphonium £600, oboe £550, flute £150, violin
£100, viola £200, French horn £200 and a double

Finally can I congratulate Josh Lynch who has been awarded a junior
place at the Royal College of Music to study the cello on Saturdays.
I would also like to highlight the success of Chippenham Junior
Wind whos membership has increased to over fifty, we are looking
for a larger venue for rehearsals. If you have an instrument to
advertise in this Newsletter, please forward the information to
me.
