ACTIVITIES

You will all be aware of the dates for the WWYM Christmas Festival. Over five hundred young musicians are taking part in five different events, one at Lavington School and four at the Wiltshire Music Centre. Ticket information has been given out in two separate letters. Please make sure you have purchased your allocation as they go on sale to the general public on Monday 6th December. If you have any problems with attendance it is very important you inform your conductor as soon as possible.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who supported the WWYM AGM and skittles evening. It was good to see so many young musicians there enjoying what was a very pleasant evening. A special thanks to Charles Carter for organising us all with the skittles.

Next term will see two major concerts at the Wiltshire Music Centre. On Sunday 27th February 2005 the West Wiltshire Youth Orchestra will perform a complete programme to raise money for the Wiltshire Rural Music School. On Sunday 20th March the Devizes & District Wind Band and the West Wiltshire Wind Band will give a concert.

FUND RAISING

Over the last four years you will have noticed the Monahans logo on all our posters and programmes. Sadly this sponsorship comes to an end at the end of this year. On behalf of all our musicians and members I would like to thank the company for the considerable contribution they have made to enable us to buy instruments to be used by young people.

This is now an ideal opportunity for all of us to think about finding a new sponsor, something that I feel is very important to raise our profile. If you have any ideas please let me or Wendy Carter know

I have been asked to mention that the following amounts were raised at the summer concert. Raffle £274 the sale of refreshments £93.

Valerie Hayward, head of the Wiltshire Music Service has been successful in a bid for money from central government to purchase three short reach bassoons for our area. This will enable a limited number of primary school children to be given the opportunity to start the instrument much earlier. We do this with mini double basses. WWYM has made a contribution of £1000.

WEST WILTSHIRE JUNIOR WIND

As from the first rehearsal next term, the rehearsal time for WWJW will now be one hour, 4.30 – 5.30 p.m.

DATES FOR NEXT TERM

WWJW, WWWB, & WWCB start Thursday 6th January 2005. All the other ensembles start the week beginning 10th January 2005. Final rehearsals for the term finish the week beginning Monday 21st March 2005. As schools finish on Wednesday 23rd March there will be no rehearsals for our ensembles on Thursday 24th March.

Finally can I thank all the young musicians for their commitment and hard work this term. I have heard some of the rehearsals and it is quite amazing at what some of you have achieved in only a few weeks.
